Think Outside the Box… The Gift Box That Is
by Karie Ann O'Neill on 02/09/12
Your wedding day is quickly approaching. The seating is finalized. The flowers are ordered. And your final dress fitting went off without a hitch. But one special detail that sometimes can be over looked is the gift table.
Many times, couples are so busy planning the big details, that the gift table, and subsequently the gift box, is put together at the last minute. A simple white box with the tassel on the outside is plopped on an empty table and left there until the end of the reception.
Why not add some pop to the décor and bring all the details together at the final stop. Instead of just a boring box that will never be used again, many of our brides incorporate something unique based on the theme of their wedding.
Think outside the box. What type of container would best describe your style… you as a couple…your wedding… your honeymoon destination? For the rustic look, why not add a tall metal lantern. Peruse through Pottery Barn to get ideas. Then add some ivy or draping flowers for a little pop to bring it all together. Or for a garden-themed wedding, a terrarium can be decorated with a simply potted flower inside.
Inspiration for your special gift box can come from the most numerous places. Surf through Etsy and Pinterest to get ideas. Keep your mind open and you’ll find the perfect fit. And best of all, when you use something unique, you can your special box after the wedding as a remembrance of your special day.
And don’t end there! What about the rest of the table? Yes, votive candles can enhance the atmosphere but think beyond that. Sprinkle flower petals around the table to add color. Or maybe moss to create definition. Place pictures of the bride and groom, parents and other family members so guests can be remember fond memories as they stop by the table.
It’s your wedding. Make it unique. Make it yours. And think outside the box.

An Outside Ceremony – Worth the Risk?
by Karie Ann O'Neill on 01/24/12
Once the excitement of the engagement has sunk in and the planning has begun, your next big step is picking the wedding date and venue. Many times, couples will picture their ceremony outside where guests can mingle and enjoy the venue's property before heading inside for the reception. But they're hesitant that all of their planning and dreams will get rained out.
Yes, there is a chance it might rain. Yes, there is a chance that it might be so hot that guests don't want to stay outside. But, yes, there is a chance that it will be a beautiful day and everything will go perfectly.
In my opinion, if it is your dream, take the risk. This is your Wedding Day; you won't get to do it again. Don't change your plans based on what MIGHT happen. You can't control the weather but you can control what will happen if the day arrives wet… and that's where your wedding planner can help.
Last year, Simply Perfect Weddings planned a wedding at The Carriage House at Rockwood Park where the ceremony would have been outside. Not only did it rain, but we had tornado warnings with torrential downpours. Plan B went into action. The bride embraced what she couldn’t change and the ceremony was moved to the inside location. The bride and groom were such good sports that they ran around in rain boots and umbrellas and got the photos that they could. As for the ceremony, it was dark and dreary outside, but inside became romantically lit with candles.
In most cases ceremonies do happen outside and are as beautiful as you dreamed it would be. When planning an outside ceremony, just be sure to make Plan B with your wedding planner, so you know what the alternate dream looks like. Go for your dreams, take the risk… they can come true.

Ready, Set ... Sparkle and Manicures!
by Karie Ann O'Neill on 12/21/11
It's that time of year again... the music, the decorations, the food... the sparkle. And I don't mean any sparkle. I'm talking about the sparkle of engagement rings!
The holidays are the season for engagements. I, myself, got engaged on December 22, 2001 at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, so I know how the excitement can grow during this time of year. Now, I didn't know that the big question was coming... but I had a feeling it was coming soon and you might too.
If that's the case, there's one place you should stop this time of year. The salon. Yes, while you are out and about, picking up your gifts with holiday cheer, do something for yourself and go get that manicure. When, NOT IF, you get that extra sparkle this year, you're going to want to show off your hand... you need to get those hands in tip top shape. So don't delay... ready, set... SPARKLE!
